Cate Blanchett Joins James Grey and Adam McKay’s New Films

13 May

Australia’s own, and Hollywood star, Cate Blanchet has been adding more work to her already full film slate for 2020. She has signed up to work with high-profile directors James Gray for his next film Armageddon Times and is also attached to feature in the ensemble cast of Adam McKay’s new film Don’t Look Up which stars Jennifer Lawrence. This follows the recent news that Blanchett will also be starring in Lionsgate’s adaptation of the video game “Borderlands”, which is being helmed by director Eli Roth.

Armageddon Time will be written and directed by Gray, with his Ad Astra partners RT Features producing. The film will draw on his own experiences as a student at the Kew-Forest School in Queens, New York City where Fred Trump served on the board and where Donald Trump is an alumnus, the story will follow the principal of the school as the titular character.

McKay’s new film was announced in February and has Lawrence attached to star in the ensemble, which follows two low-level astronomers who embark on a media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that will destroy the planet. McKay is once again writing and directing the film.

Blanchett adds these additional projects to an already busy schedule with her earlier this year finishing shooting in Guillermo del Toro’s new thriller Nightmare Alley with Bradley Cooper. She completed her filming on the project before it was inevitably stalled, like many projects, by the coronavirus pandemic.

It is currently unknown when the productions are to commence due to the coronavirus pandemic, but whatever Blanchett graces the screen with, rest assured we will be there!
