Spencer – a biopic drama starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana – has sold its U.S. rights to Neon, a U.S. based production company behind last year’s breakout success Parasite.
The drama centres on a weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided to separate from Prince Charles. Jackie and Neruda director Pablo Larrain is attached to direct with a script coming from Steven Knight (Locke, Eastern Promises) and production hopefully to commence in early 2021.
Larrain will also produce with Juan de Dios Larrain through their Fabula banner, along with Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski and Paul Webster.
Diana Frances Spencer and Prince Charles married in 1981, and the relationship was strained due to incompatibility, media attention and extramarital affairs. The couple then separated in 1992 and the marriage ended in divorce in 1996 before her death in a traffic accident in Paris in 1997. Spencer will focus on Princess Diana over the course of one of her final Christmas holidays with the House of Windsor at the Sandringham estate.
Stewart is best known for playing Bella Swan in the Twilight franchise but is also the first American to win the Cesar Award for the 2014 film, Clouds of Sils Maria.
We can’t wait for this one!
