Stuntwoman Zoë Bell tackles lockdown boredom in action-packed viral video

6 May

Veteran stuntwoman Zoë Bell has gifted us with five glorious minutes of the ultimate virtual battle royale between the most fierce stuntwomen and female action stars in Hollywood. The video, appropriately named ‘The Boss Bitch Fight Challenge’ was posted by Bell on May 1 and has since been shared by a number of the celebrities involved, making it a viral sensation.

Similar (but very much superior) to the video made by mostly stuntmen in April, this version starts with Bell giving up on reading a book in isolation, claiming “I’m so bored! I just want to play with my friends. Wait a minute, I can play with my friends!” before launching a kick at the camera which sets off a string of sequences featuring an all-star roster of bad-ass women (38 of them!) serving the camera and each other with some action-packed fighting moves which really makes us want to learn Krav Maga.

You’ll no doubt recognise beloved action stars like Marvel alum Scarlett Johansson (Avengers, Black Widow), Florence Pugh (Black Widow) and Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), as well as Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey), Xena herself Lucy Lawless and Charlies Angels’ Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. The video brings some much-deserved attention to the often unsung, stuntwomen of Hollywood, including Bell who co-ordinated the video.

Bell is a world-renowned stuntwoman and stunt coordinator who has worked closely with director Quentin Tarantino on a number of his films, including what has become her most famous stunt – the “ship’s mast” atop a 1970 Dodge Challenger in the 2007 film Death Proof. If you haven’t witnessed this amazing stunt, you need to…right now, click here for a clip of the epic scene (which is also the last scene of the film so, SPOILER ALERT). Some of Bell’s most notable roles include playing stunt doubles for Lucy Lawless’ Xena in Xena: Warrior Princess, Uma Thurman’s The Bride in Kill Bill Vol.1 & 2, Cate Blanchett’s Hela in Thor: Ragnarok and she was most recently credited as the stunt coordinator in Tarantino’s latest movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The video allows us to witness distinguished stuntwomen take the opportunity to display their fighting skills as themselves, and we, for one, want to see more! Watch the full video below.
