This moving coming-of-age story about a young man trying to find his place in the world will strike a chord with anybody who has ever made a mistake and then yearned to make amends. After being selected last year by several prestigious film festivals – including Cannes, Telluride and Busan – the universal appeal of Ibrahim speaks to its power.
Ibrahim is a young man living in a housing project with his father, Ahmed, played by prolific French actor Samir Guesmi (In the Name of the Land, AF FFF20; Claire Darling, AF FFF19) who also makes his feature film debut as a director with Ibrahim. After Ibrahim takes part in a botched scam, Ahmed is left with a large debt, his career aspirations at risk and worst of all, a loss of respect for his son. Can Ibrahim make things right again?
Not afraid to reveal Ibrahim’s vulnerability underneath his withdrawn exterior, newcomer Abdel Bendaher is a revelation in the lead role, and a key part as to why Ibrahim is such an emotionally rewarding story about fathers and sons, and redemption.
