Opera in four acts (1896)
Special Presentation! After the extraordinary success of Rossini’s ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’ and Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ (both presented in cinemas in 2021) comes a new opera-film collaboration between Opera di Roma and Rai Cultura. Conceived by maestro Michele Mariotti and award-winning auteur Mario Martone, it’s a sumptuous new take on Puccini’s romantic masterpiece, performed inside the vast Scenography Workshops of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. This vast and fascinating building, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the Circus Maximus and the Aventine, is normally used by the theatre’s painters, carpenters and costume makers. There, Martone situates the characters of Bohème - led by Jonathan Tetelman as the poor poet Rodolfo and Federica Lombardo as his mischievous lover Mimi - and tells their story as a film of the ‘French New Wave’.
