Few visionaries have shaped the cinema experience like master filmmaker Christopher Nolan, and even fewer have shaped the course of history as dramatically as American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer.
In this incendiary Atomic Age thriller, Nolan thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man, Oppenheimer, regarded as the “father of the atomic bomb” who must risk destroying the world in order to save it in a race against the Nazis.
Both written and directed by Nolan, the morally complex Oppenheimer is brought to life by longtime Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy (who will surely be in hot contention for an Academy Award). Murphy is joined by a once-in-a-generation ensemble including Emily Blunt; Oscar® winner Matt Damon; Robert Downey, Jr.; Florence Pugh; Benny Safdie; Josh Hartnett; Oscar® winner Rami Malek; and eight-time Oscar®-nominated actor, writer, and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin, Nolan's "Oppenheimer" promises to be a visually gripping pressure cooker of a film constantly ticking down to the possibility of very real world-ending consequences, ones that hang heavy over our heads to this day.
